Algeria is accelerating its digital transformation with a major investment in tech innovation. Algérie Télécom has announced a $11 million (1.5 billion dinar) investment fund to support startups in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and robotics. This initiative, unveiled by Minister of Post and Telecommunications at CTO Forum Algeria, is a key part of Algeria’s national strategy to become a leader in AI and digital technology.
Aiming for 20,000 Startups & AI-Led Growth
The Algerian government has set ambitious targets to establish 20,000 startups in the coming years and position AI as a key economic driver, aiming for it to contribute 7% of the country’s GDP by 2027. To achieve this, Algeria is investing in:
✅ AI-Focused Universities & Incubators – Developing specialized institutions in AI, robotics, and mathematics, along with new incubators to support emerging tech entrepreneurs.
✅ Expanding Digital Infrastructure – Algeria has now deployed 265,000 km of fiber optic cable and 1,400 new 4G sites in rural areas, with plans for 7,000 more stations to enhance nationwide connectivity.
✅ Strengthening AI Governance – The National Scientific Council for AI, formed in 2023, is guiding the implementation of Algeria’s National AI Strategy 2020-2030, shaping policies for research, innovation, and economic growth.
